    Experiential Learning of 3D Shapes and Their Properties

    Objectives :

      • To help students identify Sphere, Cube, Cuboid, Cylinder and Cone in their surroundings.
    • To develop understanding of the properties of 3D shapes—faces, edges, and corners (vertices).
    • To promote experiential and activity-based learning through real-life objects.
    • To strengthen observation, communication, and classification skills.
    • To make mathematics joyful, concrete, and meaningful for Class II learners.

    Implementation Process:

    The activity was conducted in a step-by-step manner over two classroom periods.

    1. Introduction through Real Objects

    The teacher brought familiar objects such as a ball, dice, book, water bottle, ice-cream cone and using 3D shapes model. Students observed and handled the objects and discussed their shapes.

    1. Exploring Properties:

    Students touched and counted faces, edges, and corners of each shape using paper models and classroom objects.

    1. Group Activity

    Students worked in groups to sort classroom objects according to their 3D shapes and presented their findings.

    Outcomes / Impact

    Learning Outcomes:

    • Students could correctly identify sphere, cube, cuboid, cylinder, and cone.
    • Most students were able to count faces, edges, and corners accurately.
    • Class participation increased significantly due to hands-on activities.
    • Students began recognizing 3D shapes in their home and school environment.
    • Confidence in mathematical communication improved.

    • Use of real-life objects instead of only textbook pictures.
